COMMON REASONS FOR REFERRAL: 

​

  • Headaches, Giddiness/dizziness, nausea/vomiting/stomach aches

  • Primary: Migraine headaches with and without aura, abdominal migraine, cyclic vomiting, benign paroxysmal vertigo, torticollis, colic of infancy

  • Tension headaches, Primary stabbing headaches.

  • Secondary causes of headaches: brain tumour, vascular malformation 

  • Idiopathic intracranial hypertension

  • Developmental delay concerns

  • Autism

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Speech and language delay

  • Dyspraxia

  • Head size/shape concerns (plagiocephaly vs craniosynostosis)

  • Sacral dimple concerns (spinal cord dysraphism, tethered spina cord)

  • Birth mark concerns (café au lait spots, port wine stain, hypopigmented macule)

  • Seizures

  • Febrile seizures

  • Epilepsy

  • Tic disorder, Tourette syndrome

  • Tremors

  • Writing difficulties (writer cramp, dysgraphia)

  • Essential hand tremors

  • School Difficulties

  • Attention deficit disorder (ADD)

  • Learning Disability (LD), Dyslexia

  • Sleep Issues e.g. difficulty falling and staying asleep

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness

  • Insomnia and chronic fatigue

  • Restless leg syndrome

  • Night terrors

  • Sleepwalking

  • Sleep disorder breathing with snoring and sleep apnoea.

  • Head Injury and Concussions

  • Syncope, fainting, exercise intolerance, Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and other Dysautonomia

  • Hypotonia, Neuromuscular conditions

  • Neuropathy, small and large fibre. 

  • Incidental Neuroimaging findings of unclear clinical significance

  • Nystagmus 

  • Double vision

  • Neuropsychiatric changes in mental status and behaviour

  • Detailed neurological assessment and if clinically indicated further neurodiagnostic lab tests, EEG, Lumbar puncture, Neuroimaging, and consent for genetic testing.  

  • Headaches diagnosis and management

  • Seizure diagnosis and management

  • Epilepsy diagnosis and management 

  • Attention deficit disorder diagnosis and management.

  • Functional neurological disorder diagnosis and management

  • Early recognition and diagnosis of cerebral palsy

  • Early recognition and diagnosis of neuromuscular disorder

  • Co-management of inpatients with other paediatricians and subspecialists for patients with underlying neurological conditions.
